Solgun Ultimate Skills Guide: How to Use Each Ultimate to Win
Ultimate Skills are the most powerful tools in Solgun. But they are not just abilities — they are decision points that can change the direction of a match.
At first, they may seem simple. But in reality, the difference between winning and losing often comes down to how they are used.
If you are not fully comfortable with the fundamentals yet, start here: How to Play Solgun.
How Ultimate Skills Work
Ultimate Skills appear at specific moments:
- Round 10
- Round 30
- Round 50
At each of these points, both players receive the same Ultimate Skill. This is critical: there is no hidden advantage, both players know exactly what is available, and the edge comes from execution.
What Makes Ultimates Powerful
Ultimates are not just stronger actions. They change the game in three ways:
- They introduce new outcomes
- They create uncertainty
- They force higher-stakes decisions
Because both players have the same ultimate, every action becomes a risk calculation.
The Three Ultimate Skills
Trueshot (Ultimate Bullet)
Trueshot is a direct offensive tool. Unlike normal shots, Trueshot does not collide with regular bullets.
This creates two ways to deal damage:
- If your opponent shoots → Trueshot goes through and deals damage
- If your opponent reloads → Trueshot also deals damage
It removes the safety of both shooting and reloading. You are threatening both options at the same time.
How to use it effectively: Trueshot is strongest when your opponent expects normal interactions, feels safe shooting, or believes bullets will collide. You punish expectation, not just actions.
Shotback Shield (Ultimate Shield)
Shotback Shield punishes aggression. If your opponent shoots and you use it, you reflect the shot and deal damage.
How to use it effectively: Shotback is strongest when your opponent is aggressive, holding bullets, or likely to shoot. You turn their pressure into damage.
Its power comes from how it changes behavior: shooting becomes risky, aggression becomes punishable, and timing becomes critical.
Siphon (Ultimate Reload)
Siphon is the most flexible ultimate:
- If your opponent shoots → you gain 2 bullets
- Otherwise → you still gain 1 bullet
How to use it effectively: Siphon is strongest when you expect aggression, want to build future advantage, or want to reposition your resources.
It does not deal damage directly, but gaining 2 bullets in one round is highly valuable. Even without direct damage, it still creates pressure.
Understanding Ultimate Counters
Every ultimate has a counter — this is where real depth begins.
It is not just about using your ultimate correctly. It is about making your opponent use theirs incorrectly.
Trueshot Counter
Even though Trueshot bypasses bullet collisions, it can still be blocked with a Shield. If your opponent expects Trueshot, they may shield. If you expect that, you delay or reposition. Timing determines value.
Shotback Shield Counter
Shotback only works if your opponent shoots. If they reload or shield, it does nothing. It is powerful against aggression but ineffective against passive play — it must be timed correctly.
Siphon (No Direct Counter)
Siphon always provides value: minimum 1 bullet, maximum 2. It has no direct counter, but its value depends on prediction. The difference between 1 and 2 bullets is significant.
Forcing Bad Ultimate Usage
This is where high-level play happens. You are not just using ultimates — you are forcing your opponent to waste theirs.
- You represent aggression → opponent uses Shotback → you don't shoot
- You represent Trueshot → opponent shields → you gain tempo
- You delay → opponent hesitates → loses timing
You create situations where their ultimate has no impact.
Ultimates as Mind Games
At this level, ultimates are not abilities — they are psychological tools. You represent a threat, your opponent reacts, and you exploit that reaction.
Sometimes the best use of an ultimate is not immediate use, but forcing your opponent to act as if you will.
Timing Is Everything
A common mistake: using ultimates immediately without context. Strong players use ultimates when they expect a specific action, want to shift control, or want to create pressure — not when they simply become available.
The Safe Execution Layer
When you use an ultimate, you will not lose a life that round. This allows confident execution, committing to a decision, and reducing immediate risk. It enhances your play but does not replace decision-making.
Ultimate Lifecycle
Ultimates are not permanent. If you hold one and reach the next ultimate round, it is replaced. Use too early and you lose potential; use too late and you lose it entirely. Optimal play happens inside that window.
Final Thoughts
Ultimate Skills are not just powerful — they define the most important moments of a match. They introduce pressure, hesitation, and opportunity.
The player who understands how to use them, counter them, and manipulate expectations controls the match when it matters most.
